I cannot ask you to have no fear
because I do not seek to give you a false sense of hope
I do not say that to terrify or discourage you, but rather to illicit in you--
A fire
To fight against a sense of loss--
Of all that has been taken from you
To fight for those whose words go unheard --
despite the minority in magnitude
To fight your discomfort --
the thing that calls you to action, but is perpetuated and perpetrated by those around you

I ask you to be certain in yourself and in the strength that has been passed down to you
And through you
I ask you to lean on those around you, seeking to aid you in your effort
I ask you to see other sides--those words warring against your own--
And to rise above with compassion,
A skill well with your arsenal that your enemy will never see coming
I ask you to use it as a testament to your tenacity,
And as a resolution for change

Having no fear would be asking you to be beyond human,
And all that makes us human, makes us
strong
vulnerable
and resilient

It can’t hurt to have a little fear

Have no fear (okay, maybe a little)
